A single query for environmental data scattered across six institutions
A platform that consolidates public environmental and geological data from multiple Colombian institutions into one searchable, purchasable dataset.
The challenge
Environmental and infrastructure studies in Colombia depend on data held by separate public bodies — INVIAS, IGAC, DANE, IDEAM, the Geological Survey — each with its own format, access route and release cadence. Assembling a dataset for a single project meant weeks of manual requests.
The solution
We designed and built a platform that ingests and normalises those sources, lets a user draw the area of a project on a map, and returns the datasets that intersect it — with checkout and download built in.
Our approach
We started from the workflow of the engineers who would use it, not from the data model. That decided the map-first interface and the decision to sell datasets by project area rather than by source.
Impact
- Consolidates in one query what previously required separate requests to six institutions.
- Data selection is scoped by project area, so a user buys only what their study needs.
- Delivery is self-service, with no manual step between purchase and download.
